Sagging Skin

Sagging skin can result due to the deterioration and reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin due to aging, as well as weight loss.

What is it?

Loose skin can occur when the skin's flexibility diminishes due to a decrease in collagen and elastin, two crucial proteins in our bodies. Collagen is composed of tightly bound fibers that help our skin retain its structure and firmness. Elastin delivers elasticity to the skin, keeping it soft and flexible. As we age, our bodies gradually reduce the production of these two proteins, resulting in loose or sagging skin. This natural process primarily affects areas such as the eyelids, face, jawline, neck, upper arms and stomach. Carrying excess weight and pregnancy can further contribute to skin sagging.

How is it treated?

Although it's natural for skin to sag over time, some patients elect to treat this condition to create a more youthful appearance. Our experienced providers can help you combat loose or sagging skin through various treatments such as Botox, laser resurfacing and facial fillers. These treatments help reverse or offset the impact of reduced collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, tighter and smoother skin. We proudly serve patients in Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, Clinton Township, Warren and St. Claire Shores, Michigan.
