A result of bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral causes that enter your body through a cut or wound on the skin.
What is it?
The protective outer layer of your skin is remarkably effective in shielding against the external environment. However, there may be instances where this protective function is weakened, leading to infections in your skin by various bacteria, yeast, fungi, viruses or parasites. Your hair and nails can also fall prey to these infections.
How is it treated?
Our team will conduct a physical exam, ask about your symptoms, and, if needed, take a skin culture to identify the type of infection. If the infection doesn’t clear up on its own, goes deeper into the skin or spreads across the body, it’s important to come in for a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists so we may evaluate its severity. Most of these infections will go away on their own, but if severe, we can provide antibiotics, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic medications.
To properly receive a diagnosis of a skin infection, visit one of our board-certified, physician-led teams in Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, Clinton Township, Warren and St. Claire Shores, Michigan.
